Hootermania returns! If recent sold-out European tours, lines out the door at hometown November shows and early praise from local critics are any indication, Philadelphia’s favorite rockin’ five-piece band The Hooters are poised to excite fans who have waited 14 years for a new studio album. TIME STAND STILL, out in February, features 10 tracks showcasing the band’s ample axe skills, songwriting prowess and melodic harmonies. Rob Hyman (lead vocals, keyboards, accordion, melodica) is joined on TIME STAND STILL by longtime musical mates Eric Bazilian (vocals, songwriting, guitar, mandola, mandolin, bass, recorder), John Lilley (guitars, mandolin), Fran Smith Jr. (vocals, bass guitar) and David Uosikkinen (drums).
Following two decades of success with multiple chart-topping albums, sold out shows worldwide and countless awards and accolades, The Hooters continue to showcase their strength for well-crafted songs laced with rollicking rock, ska, folk and pop rhythms and the band’s trademark mandolin and melodica, this time with a touch of Celtic flavor, as evident on the band’s stirring acoustic version of Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer.” Recorded in the band’s Elm Street Studios in Philadelphia, other standout tracks on the TIME STAND STILL include the rousing opening track-and first single- “I’m Alive,” which Bazilian wrote on a recorder in a barn in Sweden in 2005.
The Hooters accumulated many milestone moments throughout their career including memorable performances at Live Aid in Philadelphia in 1985, Amnesty International in 1986 and “The Wall” in 1989 at the request of Roger Waters. Following a band hiatus from 1995-2001, The Hooters commenced annual European tours in 2003, and in 2005 they received an invitation by Cyndi Lauper in 2005 to perform on her VH1 DECADES LIVE concert special, at which time Hyman and Bazilian decided to begin writing new material for what would become TIME STAND STILL.
